Rocky Mountain Juniper, near Gypsum, CO

“This was my first 'wilderness' chair, built out of Rocky Mountain Juniper. I had the idea to camp out and build a chair, giving me the most access to branches that would fit what I needed. My vehicle at the time couldn't make it up the rough road that led to my site, so I had someone drop me off. I was two weeks without a vehicle in the middle of a forsaken Pinon-Juniper forest, alone with my gear and the forest. What started out as an idea for how to get the best wood I would need turned into a very connecting, even spiritual, experience of living among the trees I was using to build with.”

“Unfortunately for the history of this chair, I don't have pictures since I had no power source to charge my camera. I was thinking more about my excursion than I was about preserving it for posterity.”
